BASIC LIFTING AND SLINGING

Description
This training provide the participants with a basic underpinning knowledge of lifting and slinging to enable them to carry out their lifting operations in accordance with statutory requirements and without risk to health. This training is designed for any employee who may be required to sling and lift workplace equipment as part of their normal work activities.

Objectives
  • Understand the regulations governing the safe use of lifting equipment and about Health and Safety at Work
  • Carry out pre-use checks and recognise the actions to be taken with defective lifting equipment.
  • Recognise safe working procedures, including the safe use, maintenance and storage of lifting accessories.
  • Recognise the recommended crane signals. (As applicable)

Course Content
  • An introduction to the Health and Safety Act 1974
  • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
  • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998
  • Personal protective equipment
·         Accidents and associated risks
·         Personal risk assessment
·         Lifting tackle
·         Slings and slinging
·         Basic engineering principles
·         Crane signals.
·         Pre-use check of the lifting equipment, lifting accessories, including the fault reporting procedures.
  • Safe system of work
·         Lifting equipment inspection, maintenance and storage procedures. 
  • Terminal Assessments.

Participants
Crane & Forklift Operator, Safety Officer & Supervisor and Personnel who want to understand how the basic procedure Lifting and slinging the correct and safe & responsible for the safe use of lifting equipment used within their operational environment
